Eagle Scout Places Duck Boxes on Carson River

Eagle Scout Places Duck Boxes on Carson River
Fallon’s Newest Eagle Scout by Rachel Dahl --  Toby Anderson has worked hard to achieve his Eagle Scout badge and will participate in his Court of Honor tomorrow, November 2nd. “Getting my Eagle Scout was a good accomplishment,” he said, “my parents really helped me out and the people I was with really pushed me to get it. It just kind of all fell into place.” Anderson worked with the Nevada Waterfowl Association to place ten duck boxes along the Carson River near McLean and Lewis Lane. He and several of his friends helped repair the Wood Duck boxes before they placed them on poles where the ducks will use them for habitat. Choosing his project was easy for Anderson after he had a chance to help the Waterfowl Association band ducks earlier this year. “You can go in the morning with the group and help catch the wood ducks and then you can band them and we thought it was super cool.” He said they use the duck boxes for conservation and to keep the population growing and when he asked how he could help more, they said box installation would be very helpful. The Eagle Scout program requires the candidate to build a team of people to help implement the project and show leadership skills. Picking a project is based on doing something that will help the community. Something that will improve things for the community. Past Eagle Scouts projects have included improvements to the Newlands Project signs located at the four entrances to the valley and projects to improve the Historic Fallon Theatre. Anderson says he is thinking possibly about engineering as a future career choice, but isn’t sure yet. His Court of Honor will be held November 2, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at 750 N. Taylor Street, in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building.         Sign up to receive updates and the Friday File email notices.
