Employees of Financial Horizons Credit Union donated $5,000 to five local community groups last week, with each organization receiving $1,000 each. The money is raised at each branch of FHCU throughout the year from members who donate their change into the hero jar, employees who pay a dollar on Fridays to wear jeans, as well as local fundraisers which in Fallon is the American Hero 5K run.
Organization that received contributions this year are The Fallon/Churchill Volunteer Fire Department, and the Nevada Thin Blue Line which is a northern Nevada organization to support families of law inforcement who are injured in the line of duty to help with injury or loss of life bills and funeral expenses. Also receiving contributions were the Churchill County Search and Rescue organization, Churchill County Emergency Medical Service Foundation, and the Nevada Veteran's Coalition which helps to provide honor guard services and outreach for veterans.
Since 2005, the Fallon branch of FHCU has raised nearly $35,000 for their hero fund.
