High Desert Grange Gives Rye Patch a Helping Hand

High Desert Grange Gives Rye Patch a Helping Hand
By Suzann Gilliland Peterson -- On August 9, 10, and 11, The High Desert Grange assisted with the cleanup and improvement efforts of park rangers at Rye Patch State Park for the second year in a row.  Community involvement is one of the tenants of the National Grange of the Order of Patrons of Husbandry and The High Desert Grange embodies that in all the activities in which they participate throughout every year. Fifteen families volunteered their services at Rye Patch to cut and pull out 25 Russian Olive trees to make a larger beach area for greater swimming access, rake and pull weeds, clear the camp ground area, pour cement and cement cables to eight new picnic tables, and mow lawns. Many hands achieved success swiftly allowing lots of time for fishing, swimming, canoeing, and enjoying time together. Last year’s cleanup results have benefited many campers.  Participants this year took pride in their accomplishments.  As always, park rangers were a pleasure to work with.
