The sisters of P.E.O. Chapter D gathered on April 18 at Stone Cabin Coffee to celebrate a remarkable milestone—98 years since their chapter was founded in Fallon on April 18, 1927. Hosted by Dana Endacott, the celebration overflowed with joy (and coffee) as current and past members filled the shop with stories, laughter, and the enduring warmth of sisterhood.
Guests were treated to daisy cookies from Sue Sevon and lovely flower seed packets with holders from Michelle Austin—charming tokens that honored the tradition and beauty of the group's legacy.
Chapter D was initially organized by 17 pioneering women, including Byrd Fanita Sawyer, the first president. Other original officers included Laeta Elden Best as vice president, Ada M. Jarvis as recording secretary, and Helen H. Kent as treasurer. These founding sisters set the tone for nearly a century of service, friendship, and education.
Today's officers continue that tradition:
- President: Becky Mathews
- Vice President: Patty Fleming
- Recording Secretary: Faye Stevens
- Corresponding Secretary: Rose Marie Bracher
- Treasurer: Andrea Vest
- Chaplain: Tina Dakin
- Guard: Becky Schelling
P.E.O. is more than just a social group—it's a philanthropic organization promoting women's educational opportunities. Projects include support for Cottey College in Missouri, the Educational Loan Fund, and scholarships for continuing education, doctoral programs, and international graduate students. Their STAR Scholarship helps exceptional high school senior women pursue higher education in the U.S. and Canada.
Chapter D is part of a larger P.E.O. story in Nevada, which began in Elko in 1916. Nevada became a state chapter in 1946 and now boasts 36 active chapters and over 1,400 members. Fallon's Chapter D is proud to have contributed to state leaders, including Harriet Barkley and Byrd Sawyer, and generations of women dedicated to helping others rise.
From 1927 to 2025, the mission remains the same: women helping women reach for the stars.
