Museum Spring Lecture Series “Wheels…” Kicks off March 18

The Churchill County Museum is hosting its annual Spring Lecture Series, beginning March 18 at 6:30 p.m. Sessions will continue Tuesdays through April 8, offering a lineup of presentations exploring connections between people, transportation, and history. The series, titled "Wheels …," is free to the public and includes refreshments.

The series will open on March 18 with retired U.S. Navy Commander Steven M. Endacott presenting "The Magic of Flight." Endacott, who served as a weapons test pilot, strike operations officer, and commanding officer of a Strike Fighter Squadron, will explore the evolution of aviation from the Wright Brothers' flyer to modern jet fighters.

On March 25, Chris De Witt, restoration supervisor at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, will deliver a lecture titled "Lumbering Through the Sagebrush." De Witt, who has been with the museum since 1981, will discuss timber and firewood production for Virginia City and share insights on the restoration of the Glenbrook locomotive.

Loren Marcus, a wagon builder and wheelwright for Marcus Wagon Works, will present "Holy Smoke!" on April 1. His talk will focus on one of his wagons, named Holy Smoke, which is currently part of the museum's "Trails and Tribulations" exhibit.

The series will conclude on April 8 with Corey Koura, a retired U.S. Coast Guard lieutenant and owner of Split Tongue Restorations. Koura will discuss "The Attachment We Have to Our Vehicles" alongside a new exhibit featuring a selection of motorcycles from his collection.

All lectures will be held at the Churchill County Museum, 1050 South Maine Street in Fallon. For more information, call 775-423-3677 or visit www.ccmuseum.org. The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
