Fallon will bid farewell to one of its most esteemed longtime educators at the end of this school year. Kim Jung, a teacher for the past 28 years, has dedicated 25 of those years to Classical Christian schools in Fallon. Mrs. Jung also spent three years teaching secondary education in Lander County and four years homeschooling, but most of her career has been devoted to teaching kindergarten.

Over the years, Mrs. Jung has built a local reputation for maintaining exceptionally high standards and inspiring excellence in her young students. New parents were often surprised to see letter grades on their children’s penmanship and coloring worksheets each fall. Even in something as basic as coloring, students were taught to be neat and thorough and to perform their best work to the glory of God. Her rigorous expectations often led to remarkable transformations: 5- and 6-year-old students would rise to the challenge, learning to color within the lines and produce letters and numbers that rivaled the legibility of middle schoolers.

Mrs. Jung has greatly enjoyed her time at Veritas. While she could have chosen a career in public education, she has a deep appreciation for the Classical Christian model of education. “Classical Christian education produces people, not just busy kids,” says Jung, who plans to retire in Idaho, where she looks forward to learning fly fishing.

Although the Fallon community and Veritas will miss her dearly, the school is fortunate to have Ms. Jessica Kelsey stepping into the role. Ms. Kelsey brings nine years of experience teaching kindergarten and second grade, including five years in public education and three years at Fresno Christian Schools. After relocating to the area last year, she taught second grade at Veritas and is passionate about teaching young children. She recognizes that kindergarten is pivotal when students decide whether they “like school or not.” With her fun and energetic demeanor, Ms. Kelsey embraces the joy and inquisitiveness of her young students.

Open enrollment for Veritas begins Monday, March 3, at 8 a.m. For more information about Classical Christian education at Veritas, visit www.veritasfallon.org.
