Daniel Munoz Murder Case Update - Bail Set at $5 Million

Update December 12: Daniel Lee Munoz is in custody of at Washoe County Jail. His bail is currently set at $5,000,000. 

On November 20, Daniel Munoz, 71, was arrested and taken into custody on charges of Open Murder. According to information released by the Reno Police Department, their office initiated a joint investigation with the Churchill County Sheriff's Office regarding the disappearance of a 40-year-old woman with ties to Fallon.

The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office released information on November 27 identifying the woman who was found dead near Del Rio Drive in Fallon on November 21 as Xiaoxia Zhang – Munoz’s wife. Xiaoxia Zhang, 40, of Reno, was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause and manner of death are pending further investigation. 

On Tuesday, November 26, Sheriff Richard Hickox confirmed that Munoz's four young children are safe. "They were with a family member last I knew," stated Hickox, "DCFS was notified, so they will be working to ensure the safety and proper placement of the kids."

Daniel Munoz, who has been charged with the murder, was scheduled for a bail hearing on Wednesday, November 27. However, the hearing was continued until January 15. 

The charges against Munoz are alleged. All defendants are guaranteed the constitutional right of a presumption of innocence until proven guilty.
