On November 13, CCHS Navy Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (NJROTC) had its Annual Navy Inspection, led by Master Chief Ken Ballard, the NJROTC Citizenship Development Manager for the area. The event kicked off in the auditorium with a student-led staff brief, where Keileene Kato, Humphrey Arata, Tyler Mackuliak, Phoebe Dowler, Mariel Jamela, Clayton Bennett, Sandra Marquez-Garcia, Sydney Hilliard, Alec Lecker, Phoenix Bloomer, Magui Basurto, Claire Hahn, and Ren Thompson delivered their presentations with confidence. The inspection concluded with a pass and review (drill) in the main gym, highlighting the students' dedication and precision. The students received well-deserved recognition, with special thanks extended to NJROTC instructors Lieutenant Commander Jason Bardin (Retired) and Master Chief Petty Officer James Walker (Retired) for their leadership and support.

Students in Kailyn Simpson’s Algebra 1 class who scored 90% or higher on their last test and had no missing assignments were able to take their success to the next level by tutoring other 7th and 8th-grade students. These one-on-one sessions provide personalized explanations, benefiting both the tutors and the students being tutored. This initiative reinforces key concepts and fosters a sense of responsibility and leadership among the students while offering valuable academic support to peers.

Students in Tara Rodgers' class dove into "The Water Cycle and Earth's Systems" through a hands-on lesson demonstrating how water cycles from the Earth’s surface to the atmosphere and back. To simulate this process, students needed to "make it rain" by creating simple models of the ocean and sky to see how these two systems interact.

Students in Tina Koenig’s music classes have been working on C scale explorations. They began by learning to sing the C scale using solfege syllables, helping them understand the relationship between each note. Students then took their learning further by exploring the scale with rhythmic patterns on Orff xylophones. The fun continued as second and third-graders learned to sing “Do Re Mi” from “The Sound of Music,” applying their knowledge of the C scale. In addition to scale work, students have honed critical musical skills, including creating quarter-note and eighth-note rhythms, matching pitch with their voices, and distinguishing between steady beat and rhythm. These activities are helping these young learners build a strong foundation in music theory and performance.

Lahontan
In celebration of Veterans Day, Lahontan invited all veterans and active duty military family members to join their students for a special Camo and Croissants Event. This event offered a meaningful opportunity for military families to unite and honor those who have served and are currently serving. Veterans and active duty military family members enjoyed a complimentary breakfast with their students. Then, they accompanied their students to their classrooms, where they shared their personal military experiences and engaged with the class. This event aims to promote a deeper understanding of the sacrifices made by military service members while providing students with the unique opportunity to connect with veterans and active duty personnel. It’s a special way to celebrate Veterans Day, build community, and honor those who have served our country. Northside Early Learning Center
Students in Octavia Merritt and Montana Koplin's class enjoyed a delicious spaghetti lunch and took a nice break after a morning of learning. This meal provided a much-needed energy boost, helping students refuel and recharge for the rest of their day. A healthy lunch is essential for maintaining focus and staying sharp, allowing these young learners to stay focused and absorb the lessons and concepts they learn throughout the day. Merritt and Koplin reminded students how essential proper nutrition is for physical and mental well-being.
