Three weeks ago, the Fallon Greenwave surprised the rest of the Northern 3A when they beat Elko and ultimately claimed the No. 2 seed for the 3A North Region playoffs.

The Vaqueros will host the third-seeded Indians at 6 p.m. Friday, with the winner advancing to the state semifinals on Nov. 16. If Truckee beats Spring Creek on Saturday, the Fallon-Elko winner would be the North No. 2 seed and travel to play the top seed in the South. If Spring Creek beats Truckee, the Fallon-Elko winner would be the North No. 1 seed and host the Southern No. 2 seed.
Fallon and Elko each finished 5-2 in the Northern 3A. As the No. 2 seed, the Greenwave had a bye i last week’s first round. Elko beat Lowry 37-21 last Friday night.
Elko is led by junior quarterback Ethan Kraintz, who has completed 74 of 130 passes for 1,054 yards, with 12 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He is also the team’s leading rusher with 882 yards and 11 touchdowns on 117 carries. Junior Jake Carsrud has run for 797 yards and 15 touchdowns on 109 carries.
Greenwave quarterback Matthew Bird has completed 59 of 107 passes for 1,065 yards and nine touchdowns with only two interceptions, while leading rusher Carson Melendy has 1,011 yards and 12 touchdowns on 134 carries.
