Several local student-athletes went to Winnemucca last spring to compete in the Nevada State High School Finals Rodeo and Junior High School Finals. Since last September, these kids have traveled far and wide to compete in rodeos spread out over one of the largest geographical regions in the nation. Despite Nevada’s winter muck and mud, extreme temperatures, and endless Nevada winds, these young cowboys and cowgirls prevailed.
In July, The Fallon Post reported on the outstanding results for Fallon’s junior contestants at the 2024 National Junior High School Finals Rodeo in Des Moines, Iowa. Stix Lee earned an 8th place slot in the world in the Breakaway Roping with an average time of 9.51 seconds. Clayton Hiibel followed not far behind at 10th with a time of 10.6. Stix and Stella Lee ranked 9th in the world in Ribbon Roping.
Results are in for our high school competitors at the National High School Rodeo in Rock Springs, Wyoming—Rostin Snow, along with team ropers Jarret and Wyatt Peek. Unfortunately, Rostin didn’t make the eight-second whistle in the bull riding but be sure to look for him during the Cantaloupe Festival’s Junior Roughstock Challenge. The Peek brothers, however, rode away with an excellent ranking of 11th in the world.
These young cowboys and cowgirls are just getting started. And who knows, in a few years, they might take their place among the world’s greatest competitors at the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association National Finals in Las Vegas. Fallon is so proud of you all.
