The Lahontan Valley Claybreakers, the Fallon Youth Trapshooting Club, was formed in 2005 with 25 members. The local trap shooting range formed a few years earlier recognized a need to teach youth about the sport of trap shooting and gun safety education. This is an all-volunteer, nonprofit, community organization that focuses on school-aged participants, grades 4 through high school, by guiding them in shotgun safety, responsible gun use, care, shooting etiquette, and life skills that allow them to prosper as better citizens within the community and surrounding areas. We are proud that many of our shooters have participated in our program from Rookie, fourth to twelfth grade. Since 2006, over 600 youth shooters have participated in the trap shooting program. This program has produced numerous Nevada State champions in all age brackets and classes. The program's costs are subsidized by the contributions made by the City of Fallon, individuals, groups, and companies in and around the local area, allowing hundreds of young participants to be a part of a team and represent Fallon.
The organization is a Pacific International Trap Association (PITA) member, which includes the western contiguous United States, Alaska, Hawaii, and western Canada. For over 18 years, the Claybreakers have promoted safety and allowed responsible young members to participate in friendly competition.
The Lahontan Valley Claybreakers strive to instill confidence, safety, and good citizenship through their trap shooting program. Anyone interested in contacting the trap club or the Lahontan Valley Claybreakers may reach out to, Pat Whitten at 775-427-6827.
