Bee Friendly Nevada is more than just a campaign. It's a state-wide community initiative that brings people together around the idea of pollinator gardens and the importance of protecting pollinator populations. The campaign's goal is to spread awareness about the harmful effects of pesticides, the benefits of planting native and pollinator-friendly plants, and the need for open communication between bee-friendly individuals and their neighbors with different views on lawns, dandelions, and pesticides.
Sponsored by the Help Save the Bees Foundation, the campaign is simple: visit beefriendlynevada.com and take the Bee Friendly Pledge. By committing to be pollinator-friendly, you not only contribute to a healthier environment but also receive a free Bee Friendly Nevada yard sign and other materials, which you can pick up at the CEDA/Chamber of Commerce at 290 W. Williams Avenue.
Through social media, community partnerships, tabling at events, and word of mouth, Bee Friendly Nevada aims to empower citizens to create a pollinator-friendly earth for their children and future generations. It also supports the implementation of AB 162, which bans the non-agricultural use of neonicotinoids. The campaign is funded by private donations and the Help Save the Bees Foundation.
The campaign formally kicked off in Reno on June 23 at the Forest Orchard and Pollinator Gardens, part of the Reno Food Systems Park Farm located at 3295 Mayberry Drive. The organizers are establishing community liaisons across the state with the goal of establishing Bee Friendly USA in the future.
