Letter to the Editor - In Support of Rusty Jardine for County Commission

Dear Editor,

I am writing this letter to invite the citizens of Churchill County to join me in supporting Mr. Rusty Jardine by voting for him as County Commissioner in District 3. We need a commissioner who understands agriculture and the issues of water, which sustains not only the agricultural community but also the value of the water that enters this valley for the ecosystem, recreation, wildlife, and recharging the aquifer that allows wells for domestic use in Churchill County.

I have spent a good portion of my life fighting to preserve the above-mentioned items as I served as President of the Board of Directors of the Truckee-Carson Irrigation District. In a past time when the irrigation district was embroiled in multiple lawsuits, Rusty was hired as the General Manager of TCID. I worked with him over a 10-year period, from 2008 until 2018, as we worked with many personalities and entities that were seeking the demise of TCID and the way of life the agriculture sector has provided since 1903. Rusty was tenacious in his desire to resolve the many issues facing the water users. His personality is such that he works very well with people. Rusty is respectful to everyone he meets, never demeaning. He was very passionate about protecting each citizen’s property rights. As the General Manager, working to carry out the Board of Directors directives, he was instrumental in settling all the major legal issues, many of which had plagued this valley for 30-plus years. Because of his leadership, today, we enjoy a positive relationship with the Bureau of Reclamation and others.

Rusty knows the value of the Navy to Churchill County and has been active in the Navy League. He understands that Fallon NAS is important to our valley's economy and as a protector of this nation’s freedom.

Please join me in voting for Mr. Jardine, a trustworthy and proven leader.

Sincerely,
Ernest C. Schank
