Joyce Louise (Edwards Miller) Nusz
With sad hearts, we share the news of the passing of lifelong Fallon resident Joyce Louise Nusz on December 11, 2023. Joyce was born on Thanksgiving Day, November 24, 1938, the youngest of three daughters to David and Glenna (Buerer) Edwards. She joined sisters Patricia (Pat) and Jacqueline (Jackie) where they were raised on the farm homesteaded by their parents, in Soda Lake district of Churchill County, Nevada. This was where Joyce spent much of her life.
Joyce attended Oats Park School and graduated from Churchill County High School. Growing up she participated in 4-H, played saxophone and drove school bus during her high school years. She worked at Kent's grocery store on Maine Street where she met her future husband Mark S. Miller, with whom she shared five children Stephen, Lynn, Carol, Linda and David who all survive her. She later married David J. Nusz. He preceded Joyce in death, as did her parents and sisters Jackie Behlen and Pat Jesch.
She wore many hats throughout her life whether for work or leisure: secretary, photographer, artist, journalist, proprietor, 21 dealer, milk tester, goat cheese dairy owner. Her favorite hat was probably her Granny Taney hat, which was feathered with all her dear grandchildren: Michelle, Sharon, Susan, Russell, Stephanie, Emily, David, Noah and great grandson Conner, who all survive her.
Joyce also had a special “traveling hat” which was adorned with many assorted pins, trinkets and gems from numerous places and events. She wore this hat everywhere it seemed; Granny Taney enjoyed lots of fun and appreciative comments about her hat from all kinds of folks! Though her traveling days have ended now, the impression Joyce left on so many hearts and minds shall remain.
No services will be held at this time. Celebration of life will be announced at a later time.
