Allison’s Book Report - “The Honeymoon Crashers” – by Christina Lauren

Allison’s Book Report - “The Honeymoon Crashers” – by Christina Lauren

Over the years, I have become known as a “Book Lady” within my social circles. First, I recommended books to all my friends, and later I started my Bookstagram page. When The Fallon Post asked me to write this book column for them, it felt like the title became a little more official.

People ask me the most, “How do you have time to read so many books?” Most of the time, I don't. Things like housekeeping or socializing go undone in favor of hiding in my little library. As I cannot do that consistently, I have found other ways to consume books. My biggest secret is an easy one: audiobooks. You, too, can listen while you drive, clean, work out, and cook.

Last spring, I devoured “The Unhoneymooners” by Christina Lauren. It is a hilarious romantic comedy about Olive Torres, a thirty-something who has gotten used to being the unlucky twin, living a life full of crazy mishaps and even a recent lay-off. She’s a stark contrast to her twin sister, Ami, who is perpetually lucky and has even managed to completely finance her wedding by winning many freebies and contests. After an unfortunate and hilarious series of events, everyone at the wedding gets terrible food poisoning. Everyone except for Olive and her nemesis, best man Ethan. When the ill bride and groom cannot travel to their all-expenses-paid honeymoon, Ollie and Ethan take the trip together, making for a hilarious enemy-to-lovers/ forced proximity/ grumpy x sunshine romp around Maui.

One of the best things about “The Unhoneymooners” is Ollie and Ami's gigantic, crazy, meddling family. Lucky for us, they are all back and better than ever in Christina Lauren's new audio-only novella, “The Honeymoon Crashers.”  This cute follow-up has no print version, but the audio version is a treat. This chapter also takes place in Maui. It focuses on Ami as she does her best to plan the perfect last-minute wedding for her sister and, of course, finding love with a hot surfer who turns out to be more than meets the eye along the way. It is as funny and steamy as the first book, in a short, easy-to-listen format. It is perfect for the inevitable moment you finish “The Unhoneymooners” and aren’t ready to leave the Torres sisters behind.

I adore both books, and I hope you do, too. Please come and tell me what you think over on Instagram @allison.the.reader, where this Book Lady will always do what she does best: reading and rambling about books all day.
