The Churchill County School Board has elected to go with local candidate Derild Parsons after a two-day interview process that included site tours and a round of community comments. Deliberations today led to the announcement of Parsons, who currently serves as the Director of Learning and Innovation, as well as the Principal of Northside Early Childhood, who will step into the position as the next superintendent beginning July 1.
While Tim Spencer, Blake Cooper, and Brandon Moeller all garnered favor as various trustees' first and second choices, it was Parsons who earned the trust of each trustee in their top three choices.
Trustee Tricia Strasdin abstained from voting until Blake Cooper was eliminated, as she currently works in the Lyon County School District at the school where he is the principal.
The Fallon Post will join the Lahontan Valley News with an in-depth story of the interview and decision-making process for their papers this coming week.
