On August 18th the Churchill County Sheriff’s office achieved a milestone in reaching a long-term goal of restoring the Undersheriff position back to the Sheriff's Office as a paid position.

“It was my deep honor to promote Lee Orozco from Captain to Undersheriff,” said Sheriff Richard Hickox. “I then had the honor to promote Sergeant Matt Timmons to fill the Captain position and promote Corporal Rudy Maynez to fill the Sergeant position.  Dispatcher Jerilyn Alexander was promoted to fill the Dispatch Supervisor position bringing with her many years of experience and training.”

Hickox said these promotions bring employees with a high degree of commitment, honesty, integrity, and drive to their new positions along with years of experience. “I am excited to see their impacts on this agency as they adapt to this new opportunity and their roles.”

Bill Lawry, the former Sheriff who originally hired Hickox, has volunteered his services as Undersheriff for several years. Lawry has also served as a Judge Pro Tempore, is a Fire and Haz mat expert, and as Hickox says, “An all-around wealth of wisdom and knowledge. I am still blessed to have him here, willing and available to discuss ideas, problems and receive words of wisdom from. He is a motivating and powerful force, and I am grateful for his friendship and wisdom.”

According to Hickox, as an administration team, the department set goals and put into motion a multi-faceted plan that included training the next generation of Agency and Division leaders. “We prioritized staffing needs and have worked diligently towards those goals, one of those goals was to restore the paid Under Sheriff position to our agency,” said Hickox. “Leadership is a privilege and it is my privilege to get to lead with people of this caliber.”
