The high school held an assembly on  Friday, August 19th with Principal Tim Spencer riding in on a motorcycle. There was a school-wide game of heads or tails, students learned/sang the school fight song, staff participated in a display of, “What Not to Wear” and there was a friendly class competition of, “Don’t Forget the Lyrics” (congratulations again Sophomores.)  It was a good time and an incredible ending to the 1st week of school.

Mrs. Purrell’s Forensic Science class at the middle school did an activity this week called Chit-Chat Stations. Students used Observation Skills to answer questions by making inferences using data. This is one of the many elective classes the middle school is offering students this year! Other classes include an exploratory CTE class that houses 18 lab stations to explore careers, our computer classes including STEAM and other computer science classes, art, PE, choir, band, family/consumer science, creative expression, mythology, and clubs of all varieties.

Numa’s new 4th-grade teacher, Mr. Ryness has been on fire this week! This week he had his students use the engineering process to learn problem solving and perseverance while building Index Card Towers. He also gave his students each a roll of pennies and instructed them to construct a bridge that was big enough to drive a car under it. It took some clever problem-solving and perseverance, but they did an amazing job with their bridges.

E.C. Best 3rd graders all shared how they “sprinkle kindness.” They each created a doughnut and picked what color they wanted their doughnut, frosting, and sprinkles! Then they got a yummy treat to enjoy as well.

Kindergarten started on Monday at Lahontan Elementary School and these young students have already taken the year by storm! Students in Mrs. Gonzalez’s have been practicing writing their names, letters, and numbers! Students in Mrs. Ryness’ kindergarten class read the book My Mouth is a Volcano and then made their own Volcano.

Pre-Kindergarten started on Monday at Northside Early Learning Center. These young learners have already been busy this week! Working with blocks, reading books, playing on the playground, and more.
