P.E.O Chapter D was honored to award two $1000 scholarships this year to seniors Jaylee McEwen and Kyla Trotter. The annual Phyllis McCallum Scholarship awards are based on an application including an essay the students write about what education means to them as a woman.
The scholarship was created by her family in remembrance of Phyllis McCallum, a long-time and instrumental member of Chapter D. Since that time, Chapter D continues the fundraising efforts to maintain the awarding of the scholarship in McCallum's name.
"Presenting scholarships locally and contributing to national and international projects is an exciting time for our P.E.O. Chapter D membership. It is a reflection that all our meetings, planning, and fundraising has made a difference," said Chapter D President Sandy White. "Many thanks to our Scholarship Committee for painstakingly reading and re-reading the essays from each candidate and narrowing it down to two young women through a fine-tuned, confidential process. We wish Jaylee, Kyla, and the other fine young women who applied nothing but the best. We know some very bright futures lie ahead and we are proud to have been a small part of that."
As part of the international Philanthropic Educational Organization (P.E.O), Chapter D has been helping female students achieve their educational goals in Fallon for almost 100 years.
