Churchill County School District has opened registration for the 2022-2023 school year. In addition, applications for the 3- and 4-year-old pre-kindergarten program at Northside Early Learning Center are also available.
The age for kindergarten registration has changed for the upcoming school year. Per Senate Bill 102, the child must be 5-years-old on or before the first day of school on Aug. 15, 2022. However, there is a one-time exception: if the child turns 5-years-old after Aug. 15, 2022, and on or before Sept. 30, 2022, parents or guardians have the option for the 2022-2023 school year onlyto sign an affidavit. The affidavit confirms the child has completed one year of a pre-kindergarten program offered at home (home-school), in a private facility (day care, private school) or in a community-based program for the child to start kindergten this year.
The affidavit will be emailed once online registration is completed. For information and to register a child for kindergarten, visit the Churchill County School District’s kindergarten registration page. Questions regarding registration should be directed to Selena Gomes or Debra Shyne at 775-423-5184 or email at [email protected].
Pre-kindergarten applications for 2022-2023 at NELC are also being accepted. Parents or guardians do not need to register their child. The school district is only accepting applications at this time. To qualify for the 4-year old program, a child must be 4 years old on or before the first day of school, Aug. 15, 2022, and meet the eligibility requirements including an income at or below 200% of the federal poverty level.
The NV!Ready Pre-K program is grant-funded and seats are limited
Applicants who meet the requirements and are accepted into the program will be notified by mail after July 1 with instructions for registration. Those not qualified, or those qualified once all seats are filled, will be placed on a waiting list to be filled as space becomes available.
To qualify for the 3-year old program, a child must be 3 years old on or before the first day of school (Aug. 15, 2022). The 3-year old program is designed for students who are English Language Learners (ELL). Non-English Language Learners are placed on a waiting list and filled with space available after the school year starts.
NELC also houses an early intervention program for students with disabilities. Contact NELC for more information on these programs.
The maximum allowable income for eligibility purposes is determined by the Federal Poverty Guideline issued each January in the Federal Register by the Department of Health and Human Services. It is available online at www.hhs.gov.
