As a newcomer to Nevada, Bill Post believes he brings a fresh perspective to local issues. He hopes to apply that perspective to the Churchill County Board of School Trustees.

Post filed on Monday to run to fill one of the four vacant seats on the School Board.

Although he is new to the area, Post said he believes he can bring experience from four terms in the Oregon House of Representatives, which brings a unique outlook to the school district.

And as a newcomer to the State of Nevada, Churchill County and Fallon, I bring an 'outsiders' viewpoint, yet I am very much aware of indeed being an “outsider” and have much to learn,” Post said. “I am ready to learn.”

Post said he believes strongly in “local control” and the voters' wishes. He said school board Trustees are elected by the voters to represent their interests when it comes to their kids and grandkids and the future hopes and dreams of those kids.

“The board is then responsible to hear those wishes and to act upon them. No appointed or hired persons are held to this same standard making the board the final arbiter of what the district could and should do,” he said.

Post said the school board should collaborate with the Superintendent and the State Board of Education to make Churchill County School District the best that it can be for our kids’ sake, making sure the curriculum is appropriate and conducive to learning the things needed for the kids in their future endeavors.

“Getting back to the basics of education. We need to make sure that our kids are prepared for a very different world than the one we grew up in,” he said. “I am ready and willing to be your voice for your children and grandchildren and for the community as a whole.”
