The ice on your windshield may make it hard to believe, but soon enough, our furry friends at the Churchill Animal Protection Society are going to be doing all they can to get out of the hot sun.

The Rotarians of District 5190’s EClub are aiming to help. The club recently received approval on a grant application that will provide a $2,000 match for the money they raise to install shade coverings at CAP.

The project total cost is $6,800 with the Rotary club covering $4,000, including its grant match, and CAPS funding the remainder.

Janis Wood, a Rotarian, and a member of CAPS is heading up the project. Local Rotarians Bob Withers and June Young are also involved in the effort to raise the funds, install the coverings, and install signage that will recognize Wood and the work she has done over the years to support CAPS.

Hoof Beats Gates and Corrals in Fallon will make the shelters.

The Rotarian crew hopes to have the shade coverings installed before summer to protect the animals from the harsh desert sun.

Contributions to the shade project can be made by contacting Withers at [email protected] or Young at [email protected].

CAPS, Churchill Animal Protection Society, is a non-profit animal shelter working to provide care and shelter for homeless cats and dogs.
