Robert Shannon Collins, Jr., 48, who is in custody at the Churchill County Jail, appeared in New River Township Justice Court before Judge Ben Trotter to be arraigned on First Degree Murder charges and other related charges stemming from a shooting that occurred on March 22, 2020, at or near 71 Rio Vista Drive in Churchill County Nevada. Collins is accused of killing Sean Green by shooting him multiple times with a handgun.
Judge Trotter read Collins his rights and listed the charges against him. Counts 1-3 all allegedly occurred on the same date and location as listed above. The charges included the following:
First Degree Felony Murder with Use of a Firearm, a Category A Felony, punishable by a 50-year sentence, life in prison, or the death penalty. It is alleged that Collins did willfully, intentionally, and premeditatedly kill Green by shooting him multiple times with a handgun.
Conspiracy to Commit Murder, a Category B Felony, punishable by 2-10 years in prison. It is alleged that Collins conspired with Tory Gibbs to kill Sean Green.
Burglary with a Firearm or Deadly Weapon, a Category B Felony. Often referred to as aggravated burglary, the offense is punishable by 1-15 years in prison. It is alleged that Collins did enter Green's residence with the intent to commit murder.
Discharging a Firearm at or Into an Occupied Structure, Vehicle, Aircraft or Watercraft, a Category B Felony punishable by 1-2 years in prison. It is alleged that Collins did shoot at the residence of Green who was presently occupying the residence.
Destroying or Concealing Evidence, is a gross misdemeanor punishable by 364 days in jail. It is alleged that on March 26, Collins conceal a gun magazine in a hidden compartment in a vehicle.
Collins informed Judge Trotter that he was being represented by Steve Evenson, Esq., who was not present for the arraignment. However, prior to Collins’ appearance via web conferencing from the Churchill County Jail, Evenson’s request a continuance. Assistant District Attorney Chelsea Sanford appeared on behalf of the State and made no objection to the continuance in order to give Evenson and his client time to file any appropriate motions and notifications with the Court.
Judge Trotter continued the matter for one week. Collins is to reappear March 3 at 10:00 a.m. He is currently on a no bail hold.
