Fallon Youth Lend a Hand

Last Friday, December 3, several new volunteers arrived at the Churchill County Museum. Director Teri Hedgpeth reports, “We were very excited to have them help with a variety of projects. One project they assisted in was the prep work for the Our Community, Our Stories Mural Project by power washing the south wall of the museum.”

“This project is a partnership between the Churchill Community Coalition, artists, and many community volunteers to create six murals on the outside wall that present various themes or activities important to Fallon,” Teri stated. “It is designed to bring awareness to youth mental health by having the youth of Fallon help create these murals, just as we saw today.”  The mural project is partially funded by a grant from Nevada Humanities and by generous support from local businesses such as Louie’s Ace Hardware and Kent Supply.

The Fallon youth volunteers did a lot more than power washing walls. The museum grounds were swept clean of fallen leaves and Christmas officially arrived with the hanging of lights on the Woodliff Building and the fence along with decorating the entry. The youth also promised to come back in January and remove the lights.

“I was so impressed with how much work these guys did in such a short time,” Teri exclaimed. “We are so thankful they came out and helped us with the lights before the weekend. This is such a great community, and I am so thankful for the support the museum receives.”
