Fallon’s First Check Cashing Machine at Grand Slam

Fallon’s First Check Cashing Machine at Grand Slam

Author: Rachel Dahl

Grand Slam Market, located on North Maine Street just north of the ballpark is the first location in Northern Nevada to play host to the newest in banking technology – a stand-alone check cashing machine.

Cheryl McCormick who has owned Grand Slam for the past nine years says she’s excited to be able to offer this service to Fallon and the surrounding communities.

“It is set up do computer generated checks but will do personal checks after you get it set up,” she said. “It is not linked to any bank accounts, and you don’t need a bank account to use it.”

Billed as a private, safe, no line, low fee check cashing service, the machine will cash payroll, government and unemployment checks along with money orders. The machine is easy to use. Simply set up an account using a picture identification, birthdate, and cell phone number. A cell phone is recommended because the machine sends a text for confirmation purposes. There is a small check cashing fee based on type and amount of check.

“It is a convenience thing,” said McCormick. “It’s comparable to other places.”

She said the company has contacted all the local, large employers in town to let them know about the machine and the service it can provide.

Grand Slam provides many services on the northeast side of town, including groceries, household items, and many basic necessities.

“There aren’t any banks on this side of town,” said McCormick.

Grand Slam opens at 7 a.m. Monday through Friday, opening at 8 a.m. on the weekends and closing at 9 p.m. nightly.
