Hillside Dairy in Fallon, Nevada, a family owned dairy for over 100 years with 2,500 milking cows and farming over 1500 acres with a fleet of over 50 machines is seeking a Mechanic and Maintenance Manager to lead a busy farm shop.  The ideal candidate will have a track record of being well-organized, keep shop clean and orderly. Must be capable of building and maintaining a winning team.  The manager will be joining dedicated individuals producing nature’s most perfect food.  The dairy provides a model combination of a positive family culture of trust and a team of professionals which will allow the motivated individual to learn, grow, and contribute in a fulfilled way.  Candidate must be a strong leader, possess excellent mechanical skills, and experience on diesel powered equipment, trucks, farm equipment, fabrication skills, electrical knowledge a plus.  This opportunity is a working supervisor position, prior supervisory experience preferred. Annual Salary begins at $70,000.00 plus bonus, but negotiable DOE. Employment package includes: 3000 square foot home available on site. Skills for Shop Manager The Manager will plan, organize, direct, co-ordinate and participate in the day-to-day running of the farm shop; needs knowledge of machines and tools. Possess the knowledge of principles and processes for providing a safe working environment. Must be a good planner and anticipate seasonal equipment needs and capitalize time during off season.  Perform regular diagnostics to make sure the machinery is kept clean and maintained. The lead should demonstrate an aptitude with technology. Manager will hire, terminate, and evaluate performance of workers; train workers and demonstrate repair and maintenance of vehicles, must be a good communicator and teacher.  Tasks for Shop Manager
  • Oversee work flow for shop determining and prioritizing order of work and assign accordingly.
  • Track equipment maintenance and maintain accurate and timely records.
  • Performs routine maintenance on equipment and determines when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
  • Records details of repairs made and parts used.
  • Supervise oil changes and lubrication on all equipment.
  • Maintains, repairs, and overhauls farm machinery and vehicles, such as tractors, harvesters, etc.
  • Reassembles machines and equipment following repair, test operations, and make adjustments as necessary.
  • Examines and listens to equipment, reads inspection reports, and diagnoses malfunctions.
  • Tests and replaces electrical components and wiring, using test meters, soldering equipment, and hand tools.
  • Repairs or replaces defective parts, using hand tools, welding equipment, grinders or saws.
  • Drives trucks to haul tools and equipment for on-site repair or large machinery.
Work Activities for the Shop Manager The Shop Manager must be capable of maneuvering, navigating or driving vehicles or mechanized equipment; uses hands, and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating things. Analyzes information and evaluates results to choose the best solution and solve problems.  Performs physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.  Lead must observe, receive, and otherwise obtain information from all relevant sources.  Innovative in developing specific goals and plans to prioritize and accomplish your work.  Weekend and holiday work will be mandatory with rotating responsibilities for assisting with emergency repairs and work order based maintenance activities.
