New River Justice Court Convened with Judge Benjamin Trotter Presiding   

On August 29, 2021, Stoney Johnson pled guilty to Count 1 Domestic Battery, First Offense and was sentenced to 12 days in county jail with 10 days suspended, 36 hours to serve on house arrest, 48 hours community service, domestic violence counseling and $340 in fines. Johnson appeared before Judge Ben Trotter again on September 9, 2021, on a misdemeanor which holds a maximum fine of $1,000 and 6 months in jail, he was arraigned for Count 1 Violation DUI Second Offense. Trotter revoked his suspended sentence for the domestic violence case and sentenced him to 6.5 days in Churchill County Jail, to be released on Sept 13, 2021, on his own recognizance after that is served. He was also assigned to court services, requiring an interlock device in his vehicle. Status set for September 23, 2021, at 8:30 a.m.   

Ryan Street appeared from Lyon County Jail for arraignment on charges of Count 1 Leaving Scene of an Accident and Count 2 Failure to Notify Authorities after hitting a phone pole, which carries a maximum sentence of up to $1,000 and 6 months in jail. Street plead not guilty and was set for trial on October 20, 2021, at 1:30 p.m.  

Devin Mathews appeared for arraignment on alleged charges of Count 1 Indecent or Obscene Exposure, Count 2 Assault on Officer in Custody and Count 3 Battery by a Prisoner. Mathews was silent through the arraignment. Shaking his head and throwing his hands in the air as the judge was trying to help him understand his rights. Mathews refused to speak to the public defender that was assigned to him. The Public Defender asked for a competency hearing for the defendant, and it was granted by the judge to be completed at Lakes Crossing.
