Dear Editor;
I am a long-time native of Fallon and sadly long gone living in California, until just recently. I am so happy to have returned home and each day, it seems I am reminded of how good life can be in the Great State of Nevada. I could not resist writing to you after reading of your struggles with the letters you have been receiving.
While living in the Bay Area, I was often prompted to write to the local paper, a Silicon Valley major institution with numerous national awards. I’d been a forever subscriber as I believe most of the best ways we communicate is by the written word. My last published letter in the aforementioned paper was altered without my consent, which completely changed the point I was making. It also made me appear to be a condescending, heart-less fool. I was mortified, embarrassed, and then outraged.
When I reached the editor in person, he explained their policies were published on their website, which we then read together. It stated no letters would be altered without prior contact with the writer. He stammered a bit after that and when I requested a retraction, he refused, and from that point forward, no one from that newspaper would respond to me.
This became another reason why I could not wait to get California in my rear-view mirror as my beliefs never were compatible with the majority of the populace.
So, thank you Fallon Post for taking it on the chin in the interest of providing an honest and open pulpit for writer’s expressions. From this reader’s standpoint, you are another of the ever-growing reasons I am so happy to be back in the desert and among more like-minded citizens. Home Means Nevada!
Sincerely;
Andrea Getto Caldwell
