Are your kids constantly rolling their eyes as you ask them to repeat themselves – several times in a row? Does your mate have a vague look and an unsure smile as he nods his head in weak agreement with your ongoing monologue and you suspect he isn’t hearing clearly anything you’ve just said?

It might not be that the kids are mumbling, or your partner was distracted. Hearing loss is slow, sneaky, insidious and it happens to more of us than we care to admit.

Dan Cobb, Director of Hearing Healthcare at My Hearing Centers in Fallon, says that from the time any one of us begins to experience hearing loss for the first time, it takes ten years for the average person to actually go do anything about it. Several of those years are spent in the unknowing bliss of the gradual decline.

The Center for Hearing and Communication says that hearing loss affects 48 million people in the United States and can develop at any age.

Cobb is Board Certified in Hearing Instrument Sciences and has been serving the Fallon area for a year at the My Hearing Centers office located at 2260 Reno Highway, Suite B. He also serves the Carson and Gardnerville offices of My Hearing Centers and has been 23 years in the hearing industry. With a background in counseling, working for the State of Nevada in Vocational Rehabilitation Cobb is well equipped to assist his customers with all their hearing needs.

My Hearing Centers are located in over 100 communities across the western United States and have been in business for over ten years. The company was recently purchased by Signia, an established manufacturer of hearing devices, however, carries every major manufacturer and is focused on finding the product that is right for each individual patient.

The company operates on the principle that an educated hearing patient is a happy patient, and Cobb prides himself on working to improve the patient experience for all his customers.

With the many advances in all aspects of hearing health care, from the youngest infant to the eldest senior citizen, My Hearing Centers can assist with the many new and exciting options available. Hearing aids nowadays can even allow the user to answer phone calls, stream music, and are operated through Bluetooth.

Treatment options vary depending on the degree or type of hearing loss, age on onset, and individual lifestyle needs. And best of all, because of the improving technology, most hearing devices these days are virtually invisible as opposed to your grandpa’s old hearing aids.

The My Hearing Centers office in Fallon is open Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Fridays and Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to noon.

If you suspect that you or a family member has a hearing loss, the best place to start is with a hearing evaluation at My Hearing Centers. You can call and set up an appointment and discuss insurance options with Kris Hadley, the local Patient Care Coordinator, at 775-404-3165.
