We’re putting in some long days at The Fallon Post lately, but I am NOT complaining. It’s the best time I’ve ever had, and Leanna says the same thing. Ginny’s not speaking to either one of us.
Ha-ha…just kidding, but I DO think she is in shock.
Running a newspaper is not really like anything you ever expect. I remember being in awe at the new Lahontan Valley News building that they built on North Maine Street when Anne first gave us a tour right after they moved in. In their pretty, spacious lobby was an imposing, curved receptionist desk, and tucked under their knees where the nice ladies would sit to greet you, was an emergency call button wired to the police department. You can imagine this writer’s brain and all the stories that set-up conjured.
Well, over at the shop where Becky lives, we now know why that button was there. When you print the news, some people get really mad.
They also get really mad when you don’t print the stories they do want. They cancel their subscriptions. They send you short, clipped emails about not getting back to them on time.
We got a couple of those this week, and I totally agree, and I hate it when I don’t return calls and emails, and Facebook messages as timely as I would like. It’s embarrassing and frustrating on this end too.
But honestly, we are running from the crack of dawn until into the night when it’s downright rude to call someone back and there are only three of us.
Here’s a hint… if you want a certain story covered, please do take a minute to glance through the paper to make sure we haven’t before you blast us. And please be patient – we will get back to you. And until we do, know that we are here, safety buttonless…
…keeping you Posted.
