A special school board meeting that was scheduled for tonight at 5:00 p.m. to address the mask mandate and attendance at graduation was cancelled this morning.

Superintendent Summer Stephens placed a robo-call to school district families last night in which she provided an update regarding the reopening plan and Personal Protective Equipment requirements. She said in the call that the district was making “a slight change regarding the update from last week. Based on consultation with our local health authority representative, our chief nurse, and others in the district, we are proceeding as follows tomorrow, Wednesday, May 19, through the end of the school year.”

She said the district is instituting the CDC guidelines for schools, recommending unvaccinated people should wear face coverings inside schools for the remainder of the year. Additionally, all children and staff must continue to wear, as required face coverings while inside all district transportation.

According to Stephens, “The district has already made changes, based on the Governor’s Directive 45, no longer requiring children nine years old and under, as well as those individuals who are fully vaccinated, are no longer required to wear a face coverings.”

The call did not address attendance at graduation, nor did the email cancelling the special meeting scheduled for this evening.

In a request for more information regarding graduation, Stephens replied, “Seniors will be given more information on additional attendance for graduation.”
