Obituary -- Shirley Jean Amos
Shirley Jean Amos

Shirley Jean Amos passed away in the early morning hours of May 9th. It was her 88th birthday. Shirley is pictured with her youngest great-grandson, Graham Eckert Amos.

All the days of her life were filled with a love for the families, communities, ranches, and lands of Northern Nevada. Born in Winnemucca to Charles and Carol Hillyer (née Saunders), Shirley was a devoted sister to Lester Hillyer, Ruth Jensen, and Helen Giovacchini. She always cherished her memories of growing up in Humboldt County.

She graduated from Winnemucca High School and married Virgil (Jiggs) Amos in 1951. Together they had ranches in Winnemucca and three children Linda, Phillip, and Michael before moving to Fallon in 1968. All the while, she was devoted to her family, full of laughter, and a wonderful cook.

Shirley is survived by her sister Carol Newsom; her three children and their spouses Linda and Tom Slebodnick, Phillip and Jody Amos, and Mike and Carol Amos; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A celebration of life for both Shirley and her sister Ruth will be scheduled at a later date.
