While this movie was originally released in 1981, it has staying power and remains fresh today. Mel Brooks is mainly known for the Spaceballs and Blazing Saddles parodies, but History of the World Part I is the most overlooked of the collection. Through his satirical look at the epic historical movie genre, Brooks teaches us that “it’s good to be the king.” I have always found this movie by Brooks to be more fun than any regular history lesson. It also always makes me think “what if that’s how it actually happened?” It is a great movie to revisit for a laid-back weekend.
