Fourth-Grade Student Rhett Beach, in Vanessa Burch-Urquhart’s class, at Numa Elementary, decided that despite shortened class time and extracurricular projects being put on hold, a year without coding just wouldn't be right. Therefore, he took it upon himself to begin a school-wide Scratch contest in which students will create their own unique projects on MIT's Scratch website (scratch.mit.edu).
Once these fourth- and fifth-grade students complete the projects after winter break, Rhett and his fellow classmate and coder, Poppy Stephens, will judge the entries. Prizes will be awarded for the three best projects. Students across campus will be graded on creativity and complexity shown in their projects.
