The Nevada 10th Judicial District Court convened Tuesday, November 3rd, 2020, with Judge Tom Stockard presiding. Defendants appeared in the courtroom before Judge Stockard with their defense counsel while assistant district attorneys, Parole & Probation, and Court Services appeared via video conferencing.
Lorinda A. Raymond was arraigned on misdemeanor charges of abuse, neglect, or endangerment of a child, not causing substantial bodily harm. The charges carry a maximum penalty of 364 days in jail. According to the allegations, on May 25th, Raymond did hit her seven-year-old daughter. Raymond entered a guilty plea pursuant to the terms of her plea agreement. She is scheduled to appear for sentencing on Jan 26, 2021.
Morgus Michael Cross, currently in the custody of the Churchill County Jail, was arraigned on charges of assault with a deadly weapon. The charge is a category B felony that carries a potential penalty of 1-6 years in prison. According to Charles Woodman, Esq., defense counsel for Cross, there are no current plea negotiations with the state. Cross entered a not-guilty plea and invoked his right to speedy trial, which was set for December 9th-11th. A criminal settlement conference may be held in lieu of a trial in which both the defense and the State will present their cases to a judge from another District who will settle the matter. Upon resolution, the outcome will be reported to the 10th Judicial District Court.
Dalton Lee Drew, also in custody, appeared for sentencing on a charge of felony possession of a controlled substance, to which he previously pled guilty. He was sentenced to 19-48 months in prison. Drew was also sentenced to 12-32 months for failure felony to appear on the first charge. Drew was extradited from Kansas in August. Judge Stockard ordered the sentences to run consecutively. Drew was placed on probation as both terms were suspended. He was also ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $2,290 to cover the extradition costs.
Drew appeared in Justice Court immediately following his appearance in District Court on an extradition hearing for an outstanding warrant in Kansas. He waived the hearing which gives Kansas 30 days to pick him up. Drew will remain in custody until an interstate compact can be completed or he is extradited back to Kansas.
All other scheduled hearings for Law and Motion were vacated and are expected to be rescheduled.
