Sheriff Issues Follow up on Sierra Way Tragedy
The house near Sierra Way where Kelly Allen lost her life last week

On Oct. 26 at approximately 10:05 p.m., the Churchill County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call in which the caller, a female later identified as Kelly Allen, stated that somebody had been shot and requested assistance.

Members of the Churchill County Sheriff’s Office responded and found a male suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen as well as burns standing outside the main residence on Sierra Way (near Roberson Lane in Fallon).  While speaking with him, flames became visible in a nearby structure’s window. This man was later transported for medical care.

The responding deputies were advised that a female subject was believed to be inside that burning structure but were unable to initially open the door because it was locked. Deputies forced the door open and found a second male subject lying on the floor just inside the door.  The deputies were able to get ahold of him and drag him safely out of the building.

Due to small explosions in the building and a rapidly evolving fire with high heat and smoke, the deputies were unable to re-enter the structure to search for other occupants. Life-saving measures were initiated on the male subject pulled from the building but were unsuccessful. He was pronounced deceased at the scene and later identified as Stephen Charles Cheek.

The Fallon Churchill Volunteer Fire Department responded quickly and extinguished the flames and requested that the State Fire Marshall respond in accordance with Nevada Revised Statutes 477.030. Upon arrival of the State Fire Marshall, a joint investigation was initiated and conducted by members of the Churchill County Sheriff’s Office, the State Fire Marshall’s Office and the Fallon Churchill Volunteer Fire Department’s Fire Marshall.

During the initial stages of the investigation that evening, the body of a deceased female subject was located inside the burned structure. However, due to the damage sustained to the structure from the fire as well as several other factors, it was determined that the safest course of action would be to wait until daylight to dismantle the area and extract the remains.

During the early morning hours of Oct. 27, the remains of a female subject later identified as Kelly Allen were removed from the burned structure.

An autopsy was conducted on the remains of Kelly Allen and Stephen Charles Cheek and cause of death is still pending awaiting the results of the autopsy.

No further information will be released at this time.
