Realtors make donation to Youth Club

The FYC comes up with a creative way to replace their annual dinner fundraiser
Realtors make donation to Youth Club
Members of the Realtors Association in Carson, along with local realtors, presented the FYC with a check for $1,000. Names are in the story.

Sierra Nevada Realtors Association has recently made a $1,000 donation to the Fallon Youth Club. Shannon Nelson, Churchill County Director for the SNR said, “The FYC is an incredible organization that is dedicated to providing the youth of our community positive, productive activities in their out of school time. We thank the FYC staff and volunteers for all they do and we appreciate your dedication to the youth of our community.”

Shannon Goodrick has been the director of the youth club for the past 17 years, and on behalf of the Club, expressed gratitude for the contribution. "We are grateful for all the help we get from the community and the constant support over the years that goes to serving our young people and families."

Outside of the constant fundraising aspect of her job, Goodrick may be more excited than the 75 students she serves at the Youth Club to see the completion of the new FYC building located on Venturacci Lane. “Every day I’m peaking in the windows,” she said, “there’s furniture in there now.” Goodrick thinks the move in could happen any day if things keep progressing as they have been.

Currently housed in the old school district offices near Oats Park, the club was located on the southeast corner of the EC Best property when it first began. They eventually grew out of that space and now are bursting through their seams at the Richards Street location. The new, state-of-the-art building, funded by a grant from the William N. Pennington Foundation and a contribution from Enel Green Power, was designed to accommodate nearly 230 students each day. Under COVID restrictions, the facility can serve 100 students.

Traditionally, the FYC hosts an event each year in September at Slanted Porch as their major fundraiser. Because of COVID they were not able to hold the event and have developed a fun new twist in an attempt to raise the needed funds to continue operating and serving the youth of the community.

Billed as the “2020 No Dinner Dinner” members of the FYC board of directors are sending out emails to their entire contact lists asking for contributions that will help sustain the Club for another year. Similar to the event hosted annually by the Churchill Economic Development Authority called the “Please Don’t Make Me Attend Another Event” fundraiser, members of the community are asked to simply send in a contribution for the fundraising effort, rather than buy a dinner ticket, raffle ticket, drink tickets, and a new outfit for the event.

Organizers realized although missing out on the fun of attending an event, community members may make just as generous contributions this way. And in the time of COVID, these contributions become even more important.

Anyone interested in participating in this virtual fundraising event and adding to the Realtors’ generous contribution can go to this link to make a donation to the FYC.

The mission of the Sierra Nevada Realtor Association is to empower members to professionally achieve success through education, resources and advocacy.
