Viviane's Entertainment Reviews - The Avett Brothers

Viviane's Entertainment Reviews - The Avett Brothers

The Avett Brothers new album, The Third Gleam, is an interesting, and abrupt album.

Most of these tracks, where there are only eight, are similar to the old Irish ballads like “Danny Boy”. However, they are far less full of cliché. This album has the best parts of everything we look for in a ballad. Each song tells a story, that is applicable to most – if not all people. Songs about love, death, and mourning.

The nice thing about the Avett Brother’s approach to their ballads, is they do it with a straightforward attitude, and a simple acoustic overlay.

The songs are secretly quite inspirational, while sounding like true tear-jerkers. There is an inspiration of the Mamas and Papas and early Johnny Cash that make these modern ballads sound fresh in modern day, while speaking on the same old genres.
