There are few musicians that went through the changing era of rock and roll in the 60s and 70s and didn’t try their hand at drugs. Elton John’s autobiography, ME, reads that he was no exception. It is refreshing to hear a rock star talk about their low points with pure honesty and candor like Elton does.
Not only do we learn of Elton’s drug excursions, and lovers quarrels with manager John Reid, but there is an added element that you won’t find in his biopic Rocketman.
This book allows Elton to talk about just how much of a nerd he is. Not only can he name thousands of bands, musicians, and underground record labels – but he keeps records of them all.
If Elton John wasn’t already a massive influence and many musicians, he illustrates in his story that you can be good at what you do, flamboyant, and a total student of everything.
This book is a quick and interesting read that makes it feel like you’re sitting having tea with a fantastic musician and all-around silly man.
