City Council August 17 Meeting
During the City Council meeting this week, Chief Kevin Gehman reported on the July activities data for the department

This week, the city council received a report on the activity of the Fallon Police Department during July. Chief Kevin Gehman, explained that the total number for calls of service were down compared to the month before and July of 2019, which has partly been due to COVID-19.

Councilwoman Kent asked for an explanation of speed reports, which were not documented in monthly reports before. The police department said the records were a result of a radar trailer that was on 5th street by Laura Mills Park. It was requested by a citizen to monitor the numbers of cars and their speeds in that area.

Mayor Tedford requested that the police department find another system to correspond with, and send out, citizen surveys due to how few they have received. The report reflected four citizen surveys; however, Mayor Tedford believed the industry average was around five percent.

Mayor Tedford also asked why he did not see any military correspondence activity in the report.

Gehman said they believed that the Navy was not currently moving a lot of personnel, but they would look into at reports to see if they had missed anything.

In public comment, a citizen asked why the speed limit was raised to 30 miles per hour on sections of Williams avenue. Mayor Tedford explained that The City, along with the Nevada Department of Transportation, raised the speed limit from 25 to 30 miles per hour after a year and a half discussion, so that it would deter speeding and accidents.

Mayor Tedford also mentioned that there is an active discussion about implementing a traffic light on Sherman and Williams to fix the same issues that were solved from the speed limit raise.

Public minutes and agendas are accessible on the City of Fallon website for more detailed information see: https://www.fallonnevada.gov/archived-meeting-agendas/

The next meeting of the Fallon City Council is scheduled for Monday, August 17, at 9 a.m., at City Hall, 55 W. Williams Avenue, Fallon. The Fallon City Council normally meets on the first and third Mondays of each month.
