Viviane's Reviews - An album for the last long summer drive down a dirt road

Viviane's Reviews - An album for the last long summer drive down a dirt road

This album, the 15th in Carpenter’s recording discography, is a perfect level of melodrama for a long, hot summer night.

Carpenter’s album consists of similar thematic tracks that relate to heartbreak and love overall with titles like “It’s Ok to Be Sad”, and “All Broken Hearts Break Differently”. But her folk sounds, and smooth vocals make the music similar to a John Denver type sound.

“American Stooge” builds the vibe up to a more Eric Clapton or Carly Simon sound, that makes for a great track to play at your last day at the lake.

Her title track, “The Dirt and the Stars”, is a long ballad to the likes of Crosby, Stills, and Nash, and finishes off Carpenter’s album with a swelling feeling of calm that you get from a good drink and a beautiful sunset.
