Opinion -- Joe Dahl

Jeanette Strong's Scribblings
Opinion -- Joe Dahl
Joe Dahl

Jeanette Strong should be published and read and heard. I’ve heard rumors that some readers are threatening to boycott this publication or canceling subscriptions or advertising if it continues to publish Jeanette Strong. How can you know what the opposition is thinking or doing if you deny them the blessing of the first amendment?

In Ms. Strong’s own style of starting with a quote that few disagree with, and then hanging a lot of stuff on it that, contrary to her intent of making us think, makes us want to shout, “no you’ve got that wrong” I will give you this one: “I disagree with what you say but will defend to the death your right to say it.” The quote is attributed to Voltaire, and is a huge cornerstone of our United States Constitution.

I will hang this on that; at this point Oscar Wilde’s version may be more apropos where he was credited with, “I disagree with what you say but will defend to the death your right to make an ass of yourself."

Let her search her computer for quotes and lack of context material to package up and blast at us, here in Fallon, and bless her heart for openly reminding us where the left, far left, and Democratic Party would like to take our beautiful country.

If we were a minority in a community that stifled our voice, we would not be happy. Let her talk, and if you are wise you will listen.

Certainly an honorable position in theory, but I’d still like to take her crayons away & send her packing. Live & let live hasn’t applied in some time now. I’m down w the boycott, plus tar & feathets

Well put Mr Dahl! The freedoms protected by the Bill of Rights are exceptions to majority rule. It IS important to listen to opinions that differ from your own (most married men have learned this lesson) or you will never learn anything. We've become too quick to shout down those who seem to disagree with us....being a loyal American does not mean that we have to agree with the current majority. Again, well said sir!

You are assuming that "we in Churchill County are all Republicans!" Not so....

The Cali refugees do tend to dilute the locals. Yay for “diversity”... not

Comment author: Jane HiattComment text: I just adored this man and his kindness and calm manner. I remember doing live interviews on KVLV when I sang with the Lahontan Valley Concert Choir and wanted to get the word out to the public on our performances in the valley. Since 1972, Mike and Dee have been among my most treasured friends. I will certainly miss him knowing he isn't there anymore.Comment publication date: 2/16/25, 8:34 AMComment source: Obituary - Joseph Marvin “Mike” McGinnessComment author: KelliComment text: I'd use firm. Press it for a bit (drain and put a plate on top) to squeeze out some of the moisture. Then crumble it up and add instead of the chorizo.Comment publication date: 2/15/25, 12:34 PMComment source: What’s Cooking in Kelli’s Kitchen - Cheesy Green Chile Bean BakeComment author: James SmackComment text: Sorry to hear about Mike, and thank you for sharing your memories. Dean had me dive a four up on the September train that same year. In 1981 I spent a week working as a swing outrider when he ran his famous 20 up in the Carson City parade. He taught me how to hitch and drive multiple teams. We had a great relationship and never a crossword. I will always appreciate his patience and great sense of humor.
