Local farmers who supply their produce to casinos and restaurants have seen a dramatic decline in the demand for their produce. But the plants don’t just quit producing. Randy Robison from Plan B Ranch contacted Kelli Kelly, Executive Director of the Fallon Food Hub, and invited her to bring up a trailer and haul a load of his excess produce to Churchill County.
“And so we did,” she laughs. “I want to also give a huge thanks to Justin Judd from Just In Time Heating & Air for helping me with the load.”
According to Kelly, the produce has been shared between Fallon Daily Bread and the Food Pantry at Epworth United Methodist Church, the Pennington Life Center, and New Frontier. “We wanted to make sure that the most vulnerable members of our community got priority access to the available food,” said Kelly.
Excess produce is available for pickup by community members at the Wolf Center, 280 E. Stillwater Avenue, this morning, Wednesday April 8th, starting at 9 am.
The available produce includes broccoli, zucchini, acorn squash, tomatoes, and bananas.
Kelly reminds those who stop by to maintain appropriate social distancing when picking up, and “please don't take more than you will use.”
The excess produce is first come first serve and subject to availability.
