Doing Business with Churchill County During Reduction in Services

Your Churchill County government is reducing its operations to help protect the health and safety of our citizens, while still providing as many local government services as we can. County offices are running on reduced staff and residents are strongly urged to call ahead before coming in.
For those members of vulnerable populations (those over 65 and anyone with underlying health conditions), please call ahead before coming to county offices as many are cutting back on hours, have appointments only or prefer that you call prior to arrival.
Below is a list of county departments and offices with details on their hours of operation and how to reach them. All phone numbers are area code (775) unless otherwise noted.

As of 8:30 a.m. on March 17, the State of Nevada has not notified local government of any positive cases in Churchill County.
Assessor
Open to public Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with one open public window to assist customers. We will mail or email DMV Exemption Vouchers to existing exemption holders. To sign-up for an exemption, please call office ahead of time to expedite your request. Assessor and Treasurer are working to install a collection box at north entrance of County Administration Building for use to submit payments and completed forms. Building Department
Open to public by appointment ONLY. Drop box available outside our office in the County Administration Building for applications. Call 428-0264 to make an appointment.
Cemetery
Closed on Mondays. Open full days on Tuesdays and Thursday and half-days on Wednesdays and Fridays.
Clerk/Treasurer’s Office
Open to public Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with two public windows open to assist customers. Please call ahead before visiting us: Clerk/Treasurer at 423-6028 and Commissioner's Office at 423-4092.
Marriage License and Applications to Solemnize Marriages are by appointment only. Application available on website.
Property Taxes: The public is encouraged to pay by mail (with a check or money order), pay online by credit card/e-check or use bank's bill pay services. Assessor and Treasurer are working to install a collection box at north entrance of the County Administration Building for use to submit payments and completed forms.
County Manager/Public Information Officer
Intermittent office closure. Will post notice on door when closed. Public may utilize e-mail, website, and call the County Manager at 423-5136. Public Information Officer available at 423-2266 or 666-8035.
Court Services
Intermittent office closure. Utilize cell phones: Brenda 427-4995 or Wendy: 217-3151. E-mail will be checked periodically.
District Attorney and Child Support
Office is closed to the public, but staff may be accessed via phone (423-6561) and e-mail. Employees conducting court will use telephone services. This status will be continually reevaluated and adjusted as facts dictate.
District Court
Following in accordance with Nevada Supreme Court, District Court is open and fully staffed. Court Order, notice regarding scheduled appearances, and visitor restrictions are being distributed to court participants and others having business with the court. Documents are posted on website and signage on doors of the building.
Facilities, Parks & Recreation
Parks & Rec Admin Office, maintenance and grounds: Office closed to public but office staffed Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to noon.
Aquatics: Closed to public.
Facilities/Grounds: Custodial is on full schedule.
RV Park and transient horse stalls will operate per normal.

Human Resources
Intermittent closures, call 423-1311 prior to arrival.
Justice Court
Court will remain open. Reduced in-person criminal calendar. Only trials, prelim hearings & extradition hearings that cannot be rescheduled will be in-court. Video will be used for all in-custody situations outside of these three circumstances. Attorneys are encouraged to file paperwork electronically and appear in court as appropriate. Attorneys are encouraged to resolve or continue trials as able.
No weddings will be scheduled on or after April 20, 2020 until further notice.
Traffic hearings scheduled 30-60 days out or referred to online options.
Jury trails will be evaluated approximately 14-30 days prior to determine if changes are needed. Jury trial for end of March is cancelled.

Juvenile Probation
Check-ins will be done via phone, and juveniles will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis. All classes held at JPO will be postponed until further notice.
Detention will operate as normal as safety of kids and staff is priority.

Library
Closed to public, including meeting rooms. Book drop is open. Late fines waived. eBooks, eAudios, eMagazines, streaming video, and other resources at www.churchillcountylibrary.org
Museum
Closed to the public. One staff member available by phone Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 423-3677.
Planning Department
Notice on office door directing the use of phone or e-mail when possible. Deferring/postponing permits that need a Planning Commission hearing when possible and allowing applicant to not attend their hearing. Postponing monthly Master Plan Workshops until further notice. Office: 423-7627.
Recorder’s Office
Open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. but closed for lunch from noon to 1 p.m. Office: 423-6001.
Road Department
Office staffed with one person. All other employees on-call as needed. Office: 423-4133.
Sheriff’s Office
Visitation lobby kiosks is closed; utilize online services. Limiting fingerprints to criminal justice (sex offenders, ex-felons) and approved CCW permits. All others please avoid coming in for fingerprints during this time. Will be evaluating calls to see if the issue may be handled by phone instead of in-person (questions for deputies, certain neighbor disputes, etc.). Non-emergency number: 423-3116.
Social Services
Just one employee in office for each office function Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed for lunch 1-2 p.m. Client appointments conducted via phone. Outreach to only those in crisis. Daily status checks via phone to most vulnerable populations. Office: 423-6695.
