Fallon’s High Desert Grange participated in the national Wreaths Across America by laying wreaths on the graves of veterans at the Churchill County Cemetery and at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley on December 14. As part of their community outreach, the Grange worked with Roger Elliot at the veterans cemetery to recycle their wreaths.
Members of the Grange oversaw finding goat and sheep producers who could utilize the wreaths. On Tuesday, January 28, the producers met at the cemetery where volunteers loaded their trailers and pickups. A large pile of wreaths were set aside for those people who could not make that date but who could come later for pickup. The Grange successfully found homes for 9000 wreaths in Churchill and surrounding counties. Many happy goats and sheep munched for days on healthy treats that are high in vitamin C.
Next year, Roger is planning on moving out the wreaths on a Saturday for two reasons: 1) more people can help pick up the wreaths and 2) more goat and sheep farmers can have trailers and pickups to load.
The High Desert Grange thanks everyone who volunteered and looks forward to working with Roger and the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery next year.
