School District issues statement in response to report of weapon at CCHS

Statement issued by Churchill County School District at 7:58 a.m today --
Churchill County School District received reports late Wednesday night that a high school student was in possession of a weapon at school. Information was shared with law enforcement. The student will not be in school on Thursday. A full investigation will be conducted and appropriate actions taken to ensure student safety.
Student safety is the District’s highest priority. Superintendent Summer Stephens is pleased that the reporting process, including the SafeVoice program, worked to successfully bring information forward. Dr. Stephens appreciates the students and staff who reported.
The investigation will include assessment of whether the reporting process can be improved and whether there are any additional steps to prevent weapons at school that should be implemented.
