Book Review -- City of Girls

Book Review -- City of Girls
City of Girls by Elizabeth Gilbert Gilbert’s novel begins in the theater world of New York City in 1940. It is told from the perspective of Vivian as an old woman looking back on her life. Vivian’s adventures takes us through World War, opening a wedding dress shop with her friend, her sexual escapades, a relationship with a man that begins badly then takes a different turn, the 1960s and more. Vivian’s interior thoughts are on full display so we learn what has shaped her along the way. Frankly Elizabeth Gilbert, author of Eat Pray Love, is not one of my go-to authors. I picked this one up to listen to on my way out of town one night. I found myself periodically laughing out loud so I kept with it. That said, Gilbert is still not my favorite, however this book was a diversion. Carol Lloyd is the Director of the Churchill County Library. In addition to reading book in print she also listens to books in her car.     Read more local news – return to the home page at www.thefallonpost.org/ Support your local news source, make a contribution today. www.thefallonpost.org/support-our-work/
