An Evening of Books, Bites, and Beverage
The Churchill County Library presents “Books, Bites, and Beverages” this Friday at 6:30 pm. The annual fundraiser, formerly the Library Wine Tasting event, invites the community to enjoy a fun-filled literary evening while supporting the local library.
Library executive director, Carol Lloyd, and her staff have a unique literary adventure planned for event guests. With a $30 ticket price to enter, guests will a have a chance at raffle prizes, to bid on silent auctions items, and win a great bottle of wine all while supporting the event.
Book-themed tables displaying various titles like “Don’t Skip Out on Me,” by author Willy Vlautin, will give readers a glimpse into a world outside their own. Born and raised in Reno, Vlautin is renowned for his western tales set in Nevada, Oregon, and New Mexico. “Don’t Skip Out on Me,” according to Goodreads, is a “moving novel about a young ranch hand who goes on a quest to prove his worth.”
Another feature of the evening is "books and drink pairing." If “Robinson Crusoe,” happens to be on display, one might enjoy a splash of companionable Shipwreck Dark Rum. The Wine Pull will give nearly everyone a chance to leave with an enjoyable bottle of wine. But even more importantly, everyone will get to share in the good vibes that come with supporting something as important as our local library.
Silent auction items include a fine piece of hand-made furniture by Ray Burbank and a BBQ for 10 guests. Kelli Kelly, local chef, and director of the Food Hub will provide and prepare a one-of-a-kind meal at the location of your choosing. According to Zip Upham, one of the Library Association directors, the all proceeds stay in the community benefiting Churchill County Library programs.
This annual event provides the added support that has been instrumental in helping the library grow. According to Lloyd, her staff has been able to expand the library program reach over 230% in the last four years. The summer reading program has 900 participants this year, Book for Babies provides baby’s first book and gift onesie all for babies born locally, The STEAM program includes a variety of learning projects for students, and they even have live animals -- from snakes and a limur in the summer to reindeer at Christmas. These programs are just to name a few.
Tickets are available at the library at 553 South Maine Street for $30. Come join in the fun and help support literacy, technology, art, and our local community.
