Obituary - George Frank Ghiglia
George Ghiglia

George Frank Ghiglia, born on March 27, 1941, in Los Angeles, CA, passed away on December 23, 2024.

George grew up in Southern California with his parents Frank and Eleanor Ghiglia and his younger brother, Frank Ghiglia. After three years at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, George married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Stevens. They began their family in Santa Barbara before moving to Reno in 1967.

In 1971, George and Barbara settled in Fallon, NV, where they purchased 50 acres and embraced the farming life. Together, they raised four children, providing them with room to breathe and deep roots in the community.

Never one to be idle, George contributed to his community in countless ways. He was an active member with the Optimist club, served on the Churchill County School Board, and held positions on the boards of several banks. George also coached youth football and baseball, owned a clothing store, developed several neighborhoods in Fallon, and pursued his passions for hunting, fishing, world travel, and riding his Harley. Above all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren.

George was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Barbara, in 2017. He is survived by his children, Jeffrey Ghiglia; Jennifer (Paul) McFadden; James (Lori) Ghiglia; and Jessica (Jesse) Nuckolls. He was blessed with and deeply loved his 12 grandchildren and cherished his 11 great-grandchildren.

Jeff - Although I never met your dad, there's not doubt he was a good man based on how well he and your mom raised you kids. Sending lots of love to your family during this difficult time.

They strung them along for years until they had no financial choice but to accept and get out. My Dad even hauled water for the Snow ranch trying to stay afloat. May God bless you all. I truly pray it works out for you.Comment publication date: 3/28/26, 9:22 PMComment source: Local Rancher Says Navy Land Expansion is Devastating His Family RanchComment author: Lynn JohnsonComment text: I remember your mother well; she was a lovely and kind woman. I see glimpses of your face in the years worn onto my dad. It makes me feel more connected to you in some way. I remember the familiar kindness from you that I know in my dad. I would’ve really liked to have a good conversation. I only have a handful of memories with you, but you were loving, and you were kind. I wish I was able to say more. If I am someone to you, I hope I make you proud. Thank you Aunt for this sweet post.Comment publication date: 3/27/26, 12:11 AMComment source: Obituary -- Randolph Floris Banovich C Comment author: RBCComment text: The Navy should reimburse the market cost of replacing the grazing land they are taking.
