NDOT preparing for future traffic signal

NDOT preparing for future traffic signal
Information provided by the NDOT public information office -- Today, drivers are seeing core sampling for geotechnical analysis of the future signal. Traffic safety and mobility are our top priorities at Nevada Department Of Transportation. We have analyzed a full range of potential traffic safety improvements for the intersection of U.S. 50 and Sheckler Cut-Off to determine improvements which will make the more than 13,000 trips through the intersection daily as safe as possible. In the coming years, we plan to install a traffic signal at the intersection. Before engineering design of the signal can complete, all utilities in the area must be identified to reduce conflict with the new signal infrastructure. General locations of underground utility lines have been marked, and crews will be performing localized boring to establish the exact location and depth of buried utility lines. This will help determine the most appropriate location for the signal and associated infrastructure. Geotechnical analysis of area soils will also help determine the needed sizes of signal and light pole foundations. On July 23, NDOT road maintenance crews are excavating earth samples, coring up to 40 feet of soil below the paved roadway shoulder to gather samples for geotechnical analysis. Based on funding availability and the findings of this geotechnical analysis and utility review, we anticipate installing the signal within one to two years.     Never miss the local news -- read more on The Fallon Post home page.
